ideas Gourmet meat Many specialty stores offer a variety of smoked meats as well as some exotic ones. Just be sure you are purchasing meats that have been processed and handled correctly. Some suggestions include, smoked turkey breast, pheasant, ostrich, and quail.
Seafood Smoked fish such as salmon, blue, or tuna make a wonderful appetizer. If you are having a cookout, consider a clam bake with all the fixings; lobster, crab, shrimp and clams. Swordfish, tuna, or salmon grill nicely.
Chocolate covered fruit Purchase fresh, firm strawberries and wash and dry them carefully. Melt semi-sweet chocolate or white chocolate, with a small amount of butter over a double boiler until melted. Using a long fork or skewer, dip each berry into chocolate about 1/3 of the way up. Place on waxed paper until firm. Arrange on a platter and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Nuts Try to purchase low fat nuts as well as the regular kind. Place several containers around the room for guests to pick on. Be creative in choosing containers! Use flower pots, pretty serving bowls, food safe pottery, and baskets. Purchase a bag of mixed nuts and roast at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes for a nuttier flavor.
Pretzels Fill new flower pots, bowls, baskets, any pretty containers, with a combination of different shaped and flavored pretzels.
